Field Notes

Slow travel, film photography and small towns.

Three days without a timetable

The best trips I remember had no plan beyond the first night. This time it was a coastal line with four trains a day and a bakery that opened only when the owner felt like it. I shot two rolls and wrote almost nothing, which is usually a good sign.

Why I still carry a light meter

Phones are excellent at guessing exposure. A handheld meter is slower and that is the point: it makes me stop, look at the light and decide what actually matters in the frame.

Notes on packing light

One bag, one camera, two lenses at most. Everything else can be bought, borrowed or skipped. The list gets shorter every year.
